WILSON HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE

GUIDELINES FOR THE USE OF COMPUTERS IN THE CLASSROOM

AND FOR TURNING IN LAB REPORTS ON COMPUTERS

I. Use of Computers in the Classroom:

1. Do not use a computer without permission. (Each time the computer is used)

2. Do not go to any file, folder, program, feature, or area without permission.

3. Keep all chemicals and food away from computers and keyboards.

4. If you have a problem tell the teacher immediately.

5. Computer Labs: Follow all lab instructions exactly. Do not "attack" the lab first and then look at the procedure later. (Having a well-done pre-lab is mandatory).

6. Computers do certain things well for us. They do not do everything. You are still responsible and accountable for turning your work in on time, according to the directions given. "My computer crashed" or the like will not be accepted as an excuse.

7. When using graphs, tables, or other printouts from the computer IN THE CLASSROOM, each individual will be responsible for either copying the data by hand or photocopying the data for use in a lab report. On labs where photocopying is allowed, data must be turned in on time, according to the teacher's directions.

8. Data not turned-in on time will be dealt with as in any lab where it is omitted. ZERO!!

9. In chemistry and other classes where spiral notebooks are required, follow these directions:

1. Leave at least a 1" boarder around work.

2. Trim the work so that the edges do not protrude beyond the edges of the notebook.

3. PASTE the work into the notebook.

4. Paste the work into the notebook BEFORE class and BEFORE the notebook is

Turned-in. Any lose papers will be thrown out.

II. Lab Reports done at Home:

Each student is responsible for doing their own lab report at all times, whether done by hand or computer. At no time will you copy by hand or photocopy another student's work to turn in. At no time will you share computerized data or text with another student. This means you may produce data or text on the computer for yourself only. If students get data (graphs, tables, etc.) or text from another student, then both students will get a ZERO!

III. Homework:

In Chemistry homework is to be hand written in ink - not on computer! In Physiology your teacher will give instructions regarding use of computer.

IV. Web Assignments

Students in Science are now required to access certain assignments and instructions that are posted on the WEB, such as pre-labs, worksheets, drawings, readings, etc. Students will be expected to have these assignments ready to turn in on time. For those students without computers at home, there are on-line computers in the library. They may also get a printout or a copy from a friend. Computers are also available in classrooms at certain times.
